Okay, so I think it is time to move away from Substack and over to a site that shares the fundamental beliefs that I began this blog on.
Let me explain.
I have always been tossing the idea of this blog around due to the experiences I have, and the people around me at work love to hear about and reminisce about old times. I love to talk about old operational issues, how I learned skills, and all the things that really bond you with teammates at work. I thought that I had some interesting tales to tell folks online. I also come from a different generation than most of the incoming developers and operations teams, so I also have a ton of experience deploying, managing, and building applications as well as automation framework(s) such as Terraform/Cloudformation/eksctl/Helm - the list goes on.
The problem is not views. I get a surprising good number of views from my readers, and believe me - I am incredibly thankful to you all for each and every view to come across this site. The issue with Substack is not the editor or toolset they provide. It is actually great, but it does not cater to people in tech or fans of the open source breed.
Since the first post, I have said my content is always going to be free and donations were accepted, but only if you chose to do it. I want my content to reach anyone who wants it and make sure the FOSS/OSS values are held to the standard I grew up on and continue to uphold. THat is why I have opened the New Relic reports to you all. I have nothing to hide, and I want people to understand how operations (even at a scale of 1 blog) should be done at any scale for any company.
Enter my new host.
Hashnode
Hashnode is made by devs for the tech blogger community. This is where my content is moving, and why I setup a 301 for the aptgetops.tech URL that you may have come here under.
I will be removing the HTTP 301 this weekend, and when all data/posts/subscriptions are moved over, buh-bye Substack, hello Hashnode.
That is all for this week - I have had surgery and I had a bit of PTO for that and then have been recovering and enjoying antibiotic stomach issues. Yay me.
I hope you enjoy the new home of the blog and please email me with any questions or ideas for posts/collab articles. ideas@aptgetops.tech
See you later!
